Brazilian Ronaldo, a two-time World Cup winner and a three-time FIFA World Player of the Year, has reiterated that he might finish his career in Major League soccer, after the Real Madrid striker told Spain’s ABC newspaper he was depressed starting every game on the bench. Ronaldo is scoreless this season but he has only seen 145 minutes of action since coming back from injury. Coach Fabio Capello, like everyone else, has complained about the Brazilian’s fitness. “If a player isn’t in good shape, he won’t play,” Capello said on Saturday. “Everyone thinks they look good in the mirror in the morning, but I watch how they perform in training. He will get games, but he needs to be fit.” Ronaldo’s contract with Real runs through 2008. If he is not sold before then, that will almost certainly be his final year with the Madrid club. After that, he said he would play “two more years in the United States or Brazil.” Ronaldo was linked to the New York Red Bulls earlier this year, but it was just speculation. He played 45 minutes on Sunday before being replaced by David Beckham, another unhappy player who’s also been linked to MLS. Real lost, 2-1, at home to Celta Vigo.
