Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admits there’s only one Roy Keane, and while his big boots have proven impossible to fill these last few seasons, Ferguson believes new signing Michael Carrick could be the next best thing. “You can’t replace Roy Keane – we’ve been trying for five years. Michael’s an excellent footballer and a very, very good passer of the ball,” Ferguson said. “Roy was a possession player, a straightforward A to B passer. Michael is a far more inventive passer of the ball, but the most important thing to mention is keeping possession.” The new Manchester player says he isn’t worried about comparisons with Keane. “People are always going to talk about Roy – he is one of the legends in the game – but I’m my own man and [replacing him] is not something I’m focused on,” he said. Carrick cost United a hefty $26 million up front, and will cost a further $8.6 million depending on his and the club’s performance next season. Man U Chief executive David Gill underlined that, given his market value, the price they paid for the player was very fair. Sir Alex Ferguson later hinted that United still has room to bring in another playerpossibly holding midfielder Marcos Senna from Villareal.
