Uruguayan coach Sergio Markarian ended his tenure at Universidad de Chile in style, winning the Chile championship final. Chilean Juan Manuel Oliveira scored a diving header in the 63rd minute to give “the U” a 1-0 away win over Union Espanola in the second leg of the Apertura final on Tuesday night, for a 2-1 aggregate victory. “It was a very hard six months, with a huge effort to overcome a pile of difficulties, but step by step we have achieved what we set out to do,” said Markarian, who is quitting over differences with the club’s management. He will be succeeded by Argentine former World Cup midfielder Jose Basualdo.
