Jonathan Bornstein wasnÆt one of the hotshot UCLA recruits who played in the U.S. national youth team program.

He arrived in Westwood last fall after two years at Cal Poly Pomona. It was an adjustment from the D2 ranks, where he led Cal Poly Pomona in scoring both seasons, to D1.

But after scoring only one goal and one assist in 2004, Bornstein has emerged as a key contributor for the Bruins this fall. HeÆs started all eight games and is second in scoring with four goals and one assist.

Like teammates Patrick Ianni, Marvell Wynne, Greg Folk, Jason Leopoldo and Sal Zizzo, who starred on U.S. national youth teams, Bornstein got to represent the USA abroad over the summer.

He helped the USA win the silver medal at the Maccabiah Games and scored two goals in the quarterfinal win over South Africa.
