The German press has reported that Chicago attacker Dema Kovalenko will be loaned to the German First Division’s last place team, St. Pauli. St. Pauli will reportedly pay MLS a $26,000 loan fee and has until April 30 to decide whether to sign Kovalenko for a $534,000 transfer fee. Kovalenko, who joined Chicago as a Project-40 player in 1999, came to the USA from his native Ukraine and played college ball at Indiana. He is a green-card holder. St. Pauli signed American defender Cory Gibbs at the beginning of the season.
