U.S. captain Claudio Reyna, who had been sidelined with a broken ankle since December, could return to Manchester City's lineup for its game against Sunderland on Sunday (Fox Soccer Channel, 1 pm ET.)
Reyna, who has played 13 English Premier League games this season, played 60 minutes for Manchester City's reserves in a 2-0 win over Bolton's reserves on Monday.
Man City is eager for Reyna's return because central midfielder Joey Barton will serve a red-card suspension on Sunday.
According to Manchester City's official Web site, Reyna had a ''steady performance and some neat touches'' in his reserve team appearance.
