The German press reports that American Cory Gibbs will move from Third Division FC St. Pauli to Second Division Jahn Regensburg on an estimated $115,000 transfer.

Gibbs, a Florida native who played college ball at Brown, joined St. Pauli in 2001 when the club was in the First Division and quickly won a starting spot. The team was relegated to the Second Division that season. It dropped another tier after the 2002-03 season.

According to German news agency RPR, the cash-strapped St. Pauli sold Gibbs, who it reported earned a base salary of $130,000 per year, for financial reasons. ''Good for the bottom line, bad for the team,'' RPR wrote of the transfer.

Jahn Regensburg is in 13th place. Gibbs turns 24 on Jan. 14.
