EvertonÆs U.S. striker Joe-Max Moore started against Manchester United and almost hit the equalizer in the second half, only to have his shot deflected just over the crossbar. Everton fell, 1-0. MooreÆs former UCLA teammate, keeper Brad Friedel, got credit for a pair of crucial saves to preserve BlackburnÆs 0-0 tie with Barnsley.
