In an English Premier League game that included three players born and raised in the United States, Brian McBride scored 10 minutes into his debut for Everton, which acquired McBride on a 3-month loan from the Columbus Crew.

McBride, who played the whole 90 minutes, met a pass from Scott Gemmill and slotted his shot past a fellow American — goalkeeper Kasey Keller.

McBride is the fifth American to score in the English Premier League, following Jovan Kirosvki (Birmingham City), Claudio Reyna (Sunderland), John Harkes (Sheffield Wednesday) and Joe-Max Moore (Everton).

Tottenham, however, equalized three minutes later through Gus Poyet and won the game, 4-3, thanks to a Robbie Keane hat trick. Steve Watson and Tomasz Radzinski scored Everton's other goals.

In goal for Everton was 25-year-old Espen Baardsen, who was born and raised in Northern California but plays on a Norwegian passport. Everton acquired Baardsen in December from Watford to cover for a goalkeeper corps hit by injury. Baardsen made his Everton debut against Tottenham after Richard Wright was ruled out shortly before the game with a bad knee.

Baardsen, who was Norway's backup keeper at the 1998 World Cup, has four caps for Norway. He joined Tottenham at age 18 in 1996 and made 23 league appearances for Spurs before moving to Watford, where he made 41 appearances in 2000-2002.
