Conor Casey and Tony Sanneh scored for their respective German clubs and Greg Vanney assisted on an early strike for Bastia in France. Brad Friedel’s Blackburn Rovers were eliminated from the English FA Cup, while Joe-Max Moore helped Everton stay alive — at least for now — in a scoreless draw with Crewe. Tottenham and Fulham advanced to the quarterfinals, but Kasey Keller and Eddie Lewis did not see action for their employers.
Casey’s goal helped Hannover rally to a 2-1 win against Karlsruhe while Sanneh’s goal was a 90th-minute consolation prize for Nuremberg in a 2-1 loss to Kaiserslautern.

FA Cup – Fifth Round
=
Brad Friedel (Blackburn, PL) vs. Middlesbrough, 0-1. Started: 90 minutes. Host Middlesbrough ended a dour affair in its favor on an 87th minute header by defender Ugo Ehiogu. The play was set up by a handball call against Matt Jansen, whose protest caused the referee to advance the spot of the kick 10 yards, under new dissent rules. Gareth Southgate served the ball into the box and Ehiogu powered it down across the line. Though eliminated, Blackburn still has this weekend’s Worthington Cup final to anticipate. =
Joe-Max Moore (Everton, PL) vs. Crewe, 0-0. Entered as a substitute (71st minute). Everton was unable to assert its Premier League status upon Crewe, which sits in the First Division’s relegation zone. Moore had a 25-yard shot denied late; one of the few threats Everton made in the game. Everton must now travel for Tuesday’s rematch to determine who advances to the quarterfinals. = Eddie Lewis (Fulham, PL) vs. Walsall, 2-1. DNP – Did not make the substitutes list. = Kasey Keller (Tottenham, PL) vs. Tranmere, 4-0. DNP.
