A tackle, described in the British press as ôcrude,ö ôdelinquentö and ôbizarre,ö by Claudio Reyna on CelticÆs Bobby Petta earned the U.S. star an ejection from the Scottish League Cup semifinal and ignited a stoppage-time brawl. ReynaÆs Glasgow Rangers lost, 3-1, in what was quickly dubbed as one of the most shameful Old Firm meetings in recent history. The game had a total of 10 yellows and three reds. Reyna had received a yellow earlier for a bad tackle on Paul Lambert. The Scotsman reported that Reyna was lucky not to receive a red for that tackle, which left the Celtic midfielder requiring treatment. Rangers’ official Web site reported that Reyna received an additional red card after a postgame encounter with the referee in the tunnel. A seperate report quoted a Scottish FA disciplinary spokesman who said Reyna, after his red for the foul, was reported for violent conduct for kicking a Celtic player and for dissent. Reyna, who missed two World Cup qualifiers because of a suspension for insulting the referee after the Costa Rica-USA game, had recently been cited as one of the few bright spots on a struggling Rangers team. But he has also been gaining a reputation in Scotland as a reckless tackler. Scotland Claudio Reyna, Rangers (PL) started (90 min/ejected) vs. Celtic (1-3) in Scottish League Cup semifinals. England Joe-Max Moore, Everton (PL) started (66 min) vs. Leeds United (2-2) Brad Friedel, Blackburn (D1) started (90 min.) vs. Derby (5-2) in FA Cup 4th Round Replay.
