Mixed results for two U.S. midfielders in Thursday’s UEFA Cup action: Claudio Reyna (Glasgow Rangers) and John O’Brien (Ajax Amsterdam) each played the full 90 minutes in their teams’ second round, second-leg games. Rangers thumped Dynamo Moscow, 4-1, in Russia to advance to the third round, 7-2, on aggregate. The Scottish club, which faces Paris St. Germain Nov. 22 and Dec. 6, has been given 33/1 odds to win the title by British bookmaker William Hill. (AC Milan is the favorite at 5/1). Ajax Amsterdam is out of European competition this season, having dropped a 1-0 contest at home to FC Copenhagen after a scoreless draw in Denmark. In the Rangers’ win, Reyna squandered an excellent opportunity in the fifth minute, shooting wide with only the keeper to beat.
