In a rare occurrence, every European-based American player who was with his first or second division club this weekend saw action. Nine players played 90 minutes, five others came on as substitutes and one played 61 minutes after starting. Kasey Keller, Frankie Hejduk and Eddie Lewis, who normally do not play for their teams, were with the U.S. national team at the Gold Cup.
Meanwhile, Steve Cherundolo and Cory Gibbs were both listed among their team’s two best players in Germany and Greg Vanney helped French club Bastia defeat Lille.
