Claudio Reyna started for Rangers for the first time in a month but could not help his club prevent arch-rival Celtic from taking a 2-0 victory away from Ibrox. Reyna left the game with a bruised knee in the 67th minute, but the Rangers team doctor declared him fit Monday as he departed to join the U.S. team. John O’Brien started for Ajax in his third match since returning from injury. Scotland Claudio Reyna, Rangers (PL) Started (67 min.) vs. Celtic (0-2). Argentine Claudio Caniggia replaced Reyna three minutes after Lorenzo Amoruso’s red card left Rangers a man down. Reyna came off with a slight limp according to the Associated Press. According to the club’s web site, team doctor Gert Goudswaard said that Reyna’s substitution was precautionary and unrelated to his recent groin injury. “Claudio hurt his knee when he collided with the post and, although it is causing him some pain, we managed to get ice on it quickly and itÆs not too badly swollen,” Goudswaard said. Reyna missed an excellent scoring chance near the 60th minute after Ronald De Boer nodded a cross down behind the defense. The loss put Celtic seven points up on Rangers in the standings. Early in the match, a Celtic fan taunted Reyna as he set to take a corner kick by imitating an airplane. Reyna later called the gesture “disgusting” and a Celtic spokeswoman also denounced the behavior, saying an attempt would be made to prohibit the fan from attending future matches.
