For the third straight year, the East Coast will be the site of a four-team international women’s tournament.
The U.S. Women’s Cup ’96 will feature three Olympic finalists: the United States, China and Japan. Canada, which reached last year’s Women’s World Cup Championship finals but didn’t qualify for Atlanta ’96, is the fourth entrant.
Matches will be played over the course of a week with a doubleheader pitting the United States against China and Canada against Japan May 18 at Washington’s RFK Stadium.
The tournament opens in New England the weekend before. The two Asian powers meet May 11 in Salem, N.H., and the United States hosting Canada the next day in Worcester, Mass.
Other matches: Canada vs. China May 15 in New Britain, Conn., and the United States vs. Japan May 16 in Horsham, Pa.
