Tim Howard won England's FA Cup with Manchester United as the Reds defeated Millwall, 3-0. The goalkeeper, who was called on to grab some crosses and did not need to make any saves, becomes the first American to win the prestigious competition.

In Germany, on the season's last day, Conor Casey helped Karlsruhe dodge relegation by scoring his 14th goal of the season, but Gregg Berhalter's club, Energie Cottbus, was unable to earn promotion to the Bundesliga.

Berhalter was unable to play, having suffered a broken nose and damaged eye socket in last weeks 2-0 loss to Unterhaching. Berhalter required surgery and the insertion of a metal plate.

Cottbus, hoping to return to the First Division from which it had dropped after the 2002-03 season, had been in the promotion battle for most of the season but suffered through a late-season slump. It defeated Jahn Regensburg, 3-0, in its final game, but finished fourth on goal difference. Cottbus had plus-8 goal difference while third-place finisher Mainz had plus-15.

Mainz, Arminia Bielefed and Second Division Nuremberg (Tony Sanneh's club) won promotion to the First Division. Dropping from the First Division were Eintrach Frankfurt, Munich 1860 and FC Cologne.

In France, Bastia (Greg Vanney) avoided relegation to the Second Division.
