The United States and Mexico will play for the U.S. Cup ’99 championship on March 13 in San Diego. Mexico defeated Bolivia, 2-1, in the second match of the March 11 doubleheader in Los Angeles. If the USA-Mexico match should end in a draw, the U.S. would win on goal differential. Bolivia scored on the first shot of the game, a 25-yard unassisted blast from Fernando Ochoaizpur, who ripped the shot past a stunned Adolfo Rios into the upper-right corner of the goal. Mexico tied the match in the 54th minute, Joel Sanchez flicking a headed shot past goalkeeper Marco Barrero. Sanchez then scored on a second header just six minutes later, this time on a cross from Ramon Ramirez, to give Mexico the win. March 11 in Los Angeles Mexico 2 Bolivia 1.
