[OLYMPIC QUALIFYING] New Mexico product Edgar Castillo went the full 90 minutes for Mexico's U-23 national team in its final two warm-up games for CONCACAF Olympic qualifying, which starts next week. On Thursday, Mexico tied Finland, 0-0, in front of 11,780 fans in Frisco, Texas. On Sunday, Castillo hit the cross that Australian Adam D'Apuzzo knocked into his own goal in a 1-1 tie in Oakland, Calif., in front of 47,416 fans.

Against Finland, Castillo, 21, playing wide left in midfield, was responsible for a couple of Mexico's more promising forays, but El Tri came up empty while keeper Guillermo Ochoa made four saves to keep the Finns at bay.

Mexico opens its qualifying campaign on Wednesday against Canada in Los Angeles.

After completing high school in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the U.S.-born Castillo and his younger brother, Noel, attended a Santos tryout and were both offered long-term contracts. Noel is playing for Santos' Second Division team. Edgar made his First Division debut in April of 2006 and won a starting position in January of 2007.

Castillo debuted for Mexico's full national team in August of 2007 against Colombia in which Coach Hugo Sanchez included several U-23 players to test them for the Olympic squad.
