U.S. head coach Bruce Arena has selected 24 players to represent the United States as the team prepares to battle Mexico in its first match of the Hexagonal on Feb. 28 in Columbus, Ohio. Of the 24 players on the roster, 12 are currently on Major League Soccer rosters. Ten are with European teams, two on loan from MLS teams, and free agents Cobi Jones and Gregg Berhalter have been trying to sign with English teams. Arena’s roster includes 18-year-olds DaMarcus Beasley and Landon Donovan. The U.S. squad will begin training for the Mexico match in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla, on Friday, February 16 before relocating to Columbus on Saturday, February 24. Players not picked include Rayo Vallecano goalie Kasey Keller, and two players who played in the first two exhibitions of the year: midfielder Kerry Zavagnin and striker Chris Albright.
