U.S. women’s national team coach Tony DiCicco has announced his roster for a pair of games against the German national team Oct. 9 in Duisburg and Oct. 12 in Salzgitter. The matches will be the first for the U.S. since the 1995 Women’s World Cup in Sweden. Nine members of the 1996 Olympic gold-medal winning squad will be on the trip, including Carla Overbeck, who gave birth to a baby boy Aug. 14 and will be making her first appearance since winning the gold medal, and Michelle Akers, who has spent the past year resting and rehabilitating after minor knee surgery. Also on the U.S. roster is Danielle Fotopoulos,, who tore her right ACL and MCL in April and had surgery in May. Fotopoulos, who is redshirting this season, which would have been her senior year at Florida, will train with the team and perhaps see limited game action. The U.S. women will gather in Hartford, Conn. on Sept. 28 and play an exhibition against the University of Hartford on Oct. 2 before departing for Germany Oct. 6.
