U.S. coach John Ellinger has selected his 18-player roster for the U-17 World Cup Sept. 13-30 in Trinidad & Tobago. It includes two MLS players — the Dallas BurnÆs Eddie Johnson and D.C. UnitedÆs Santino Quaranta. Johnson has scored 22 goals in 20 U-17 games. In seven international matches this year, Quaranta leads the team with six assists. Quaranta, the youngest player to sign an MLS contract, is also the youngest player to score a goal. In 16 appearances with D.C., Quaranta has tallied five goals. Johnson, playing mainly as a sub with Dallas, has tallied twice in his rookie season for the Burn. David Chun is the only player on the roster who missed the qualifying tournament. He had been one of EllingerÆs most reliable players, starting in every international in 2000 and 2001 prior to the knee injury that sidelined him for the qualifiers in April.
