The U.S. Soccer Federation Foundation has awarded grants totaling $2.5 million to national, state and local soccer programs.

Key national grants included funds to start an under-14 national team program for boys and girls ($766,000 over three years) and underwrite the U.S. bid for the 1999 Women’s World Championship ($385,000).

Soccer programs in the following states received funds: Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia. Most of the grants were for soccer facilities.

The Foundation has received $20 million from the World Cup ’94 organizing committee, which estimates the remaining profits to be distributed are another $30 million. They cannot be distributed by law until the affairs of the committee are finished, namely outstanding lawsuits settled or terminated.
