U.S. women's national team head coach April Heinrichs called in 26 players training, beginning Jan. 9.
The Americans face Japan three days later, train for three more days and then depart for China on Jan. 16. The Americans face Norway Jan. 23 in Yiwu to open a four-nation tournament. They meet Germany Jan. 26 in Wuhan and finish against host China Jan. 29 in Shanghai, site of the 2003 Women's World Cup final. All the matches will be broadcast on TV nationally within China.
The roster includes 20 WUSA professionals, five college players and one high school player. Heinrichs called in North Carolina freshman Lindsay Tarpley, Texas sophomore Kelly Wilson and high school senior Heather O'Reilly, the forwards who led the U.S. to the Under-19 World Championship title last September.
Tarpley, who scored the golden goal that gave the U.S. the 1-0 victory over host Canada, is the only uncapped player called up.
Veterans Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly and Julie Foudy are taking January off.
