For the second time in a year, U.S. national team midfielder Tab Ramos is facing six months on the sidelines after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in practice before the USA-Mexico game. Ramos, who missed more than three months of the ’97 MLS season with the MetroStars, is expected to miss the opening of the ’98 MLS season. U.S. national team coach Steve Sampson hopes Ramos will be available for the ’98 World Cup, if the U.S. qualifies.
