The U.S. under-17 national team had to settle for second place in the Super Group at the Dallas Cup Sunday when it lost to Tigres of Mexico, 2-1 in the final.
The U-17s were trying to become the first American team to win the U-19 Super Group but fell behind on two goals in the first 15 minutes.
The Americans were playing without central defender Jonathan Spector, who was given his second yellow card at the end of the first half and was ejected from the U-17s' semifinal match Friday night with England's Newcastle United. They won, 1-0, to set up their meeting with Tigres.
The second-place finish was the best ever for the U.S. national team at the Dallas Cup.
