The U.S. women's national team plays its 10th match of the year, and its third home game of 2002, when it faces archrival Norway at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn., on Sunday (live on ESPN 1 p.m. ET). The USA has a 5-2-2 record in 2002 with both losses coming to Norway (1-0 in Huadu, China, Jan. 23 and 3-2 at the Algarve Cup in Portugal, March 5). * Mia Hamm is expected to make her return to Coach April Heinrichs' lineup after missing the last nine matches because of injury. Her last appearance came in a 4-1 win over Germany on Sept. 9, 2001. She scored twice in that game. Hamm is the U.S. and world all-time leading scorer in women's international soccer with 129 goals and 109 assists in 219 games. * Also returning is goalkeeper Briana Scurry, who starred on the U.S. 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning team and the 1999 World Cup-winning squad, but hasn't played for the USA since Aug. 20, 2000. The Dayton, Minnesota, native has 103 caps, 72 more than any other U.S. goalkeeper. * Shannon McMillan enters the game having scored 20 goals in the USA's nine 2002 games. * The USA has played Norway more than any rival. The Americans have won 13, lost 18 and tied 2. Norway is the only nation with a winning record against the USA. * The U.S. players will be using this friendly to make a case for themselves as candidates for the team Coach Heinrichs is constructing for 2003 World Cup qualifying. The CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup (Oct. 27-Nov. 9) will serve as the region's qualifying tournament. CONCACAF has two guaranteed spots in the 2003 WWC, with the third-place finisher in the qualifying competition playing the fourth-place team from the Asian Football Confederation for the final spot.
