The U.S. men’s national team will return to action against Australia at Spartan Stadium in San Jose on Friday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m. (PT). The game marks the USA’s first match since the 1998 World Cup in France, and could be the first appearance of the team’s new head coach. The game will be televised tape delayed on ESPN on Nov. 10 at 9 p.m. (PT). The U.S. men have played just once before at Spartan Stadium, a 0-0 draw with Macedonia in front of 23,861 fans earlier this year on May 16. Overall, this is the USA’s 11th appearance in the Bay Area in the 1990s, where the team has compiled a 5-4-1 record in games in Oakland, Palo Alto and San Jose. “After undergoing an extensive renovation last winter, Spartan Stadium has become one of the premier soccer-specific venues in the country,” said U.S. Soccer Secretary General Hank Steinbrecher. “The Bay Area community has continually supported soccer over the years, so it’s nice to have an intimate facility like Spartan Stadium to call home in San Jose.” Tickets for the match can be purchased by calling the San Jose Clash directly at 408/985- GOAL, or through BASS Ticket Outlets or by calling (408) 998-BASS. For Clash season ticket holders, the match will serve as the second bonus game of their season ticket packages. Australia is currently competing in the Oceania Nations Cup, which will determine Oceania’s representative in the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup. The draw for the Confederations Cup is scheduled for October 4 in Mexico City. The tournament, which was recently confirmed for January 8-20 in Mexico, will also feature the USA, along with Bolivia, Brazil, Egypt, France, Saudi Arabia and host Mexico. The U.S. lost their only previous encounter with Australia, 1-0, on June 13, 1992 in Orlando, Fla.
