Angie Woznuk had a hat trick by the 26th minute and Kerri Hanks scored her tournament-leading seventh and eighth goals as the U.S. under-19 women's national team buried Mexico, 6-0, Friday night to advance to next fall's World Championship.

Woznuk scored in the fourth, 24th and 26th minutes at Molson Stadium in Montreal as the Americans quickly rebounded from a disappointing, but ultimately meaningless, 0-0 tie with Costa Rica in their final group match.

Stephanie Kron scored on a late free kick to finish off the U.S. triumph, which enables the U-19s to defend the Americans' 2002 title in November.

Canada, runners-up in 2002, also qualified for the Nov. 10-27 FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship in Thailand, dominating Costa Rica, 4-0, in the nightcap of the CONCACAF qualifying semifinal doubleheader at Molson Stadium in Montreal.

The United States and Canada will play in the tournament final Sunday afternoon at Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa.

Woznuk, a freshman last fall at the University of Portland, fired the Americans ahead right away with a blast from the top of the Mexican box. She got her second on a 22-yard free kick that floated over Mexico's wall and dipped into the lower-right corner, then drilled a Stephanie Logterman feed to complete the hat trick.

''I talked to all the girls before the game, and we wanted to score right away,'' said Woznuk, who has four goals in the tournament. ''All I was thinking about was scoring, and it just happened that I was able to get three pretty early.''

Hanks, a Notre Dame recruit who had hat tricks against the Dominican Republic and Trinidad & Tobago but didn't play against Costa Rica, got the fourth goal in the 37th minute, finishing a Sheree Gray pass after Logterman made a steal and played Gray up the left flank.

Hanks added another in the 80th minute, scoring from backline anchor Becky Sauerbrunn's through ball.

Veronique Maranda scored in the 24th minute and University of Nebraska standout Brittany Timko in the 27th as Canada put away Costa Rica in the first half. University of Illinois recruit Emily Zurrer made it 3-0 in the 37th with her third goal of the tournament, and a late Karla Villalobos own goal provided the final margin.

Goalkeeper Stacey VanBoxmeer, from the University of Indiana, notched her fourth shutout. Canada is the only team in the tournament that has won all its games and not allowed a goal.
