Swedish national-teamer Therese Sjogran netted a pair of goals as Malmo FF, with former Rutgers University standout Denise Reddy in central defense, routed host Balinge IF, 5-1, Thursday in a Swedish Damallsvenskan opener.
Sjogran's 25th-minute goal broke a 1-1 tie, and Malmo added three goals in the final 22 minutes — including Sjogran's 75th-minute strike — to pull away.
Reddy, as usual, played 90 minutes in central defense, paired with Karolina Westberg, Malmo's other Swedish national-teamer.
Malmo, which is home Sunday against Malbackens, is one of six teams with three points.
VfL Wolfsburg, with former UCLA defender Tracey Winzen, was beaten, 3-0, Wednesday at FFC Frankfurt, which surged ahead of FFC Turbine Potsdam in the German League.
