FFC Turbine Potsdam — with former Atlanta Beat defenders Nancy and Julie Augustyniak — took command in the battle for the German League championship on Wednesday when first-place FFC Frankfurt failed to beat visiting Bayern Munich, extending the four-time defending Frauen-Bundesliga titlistsÆ winless streak to three games.

Turbine (17-1-1), runners-up the past four seasons, can vault into first place with victories Thursday at FSV Frankfurt and Sunday at home against FCR 2001 Duisburg. FFC Frankfurt (18-0-3) holds a five-point lead in the Frauen-Bundesliga but likely will trail Turbine by one point heading into their June 13 showdown in the season finale.

FFCF has tied its past two league matches, sandwiched around a 3-0 loss to Turbine last weekend in the German Cup final. The streak could reach four Saturday, when FFCF is home against Umea in the second leg of the UEFA WomenÆs Cup final. The Swedes won the first leg, 3-0, nearly a month ago.

Turbine, previously without a major trophy, now is seeking the German ''double.''

Stephanie Weichelt gave FFCF a seventh-minute lead Wednesday, but former Philadelphia Charge forward Pavlina Scasna pulled Bayern Munich even 10 minutes later.

Details are available from WUSA veterans Darci BorskiÆs and Venus JamesÆ most recent games. Borski, who finished last season with the Philadelphia Charge, scored her second goal of the season in AskerÆs 10-2 Norwegian Cup rout last week of third-tier Rolsvoy IF. Norwegian national-teamer Lise Klaveness scored five goals for Asker, and Kjersti Thun added three.

James, who won WUSA championships with the San Jose CyberRays and Carolina Courage, started for the second consecutive match in Swedish champion Djurgarden/AlvsjoÆs 4-1 Damallsvenskan victory Tuesday at Stattena IF.
