The U.S. women’s national team match against Finland scheduled for Feb. 27 has been relocated to Pepin/Rood Stadium at the University of Tampa. The match was originally scheduled for the University of Florida in Gainesville, but was moved to avoid any sponsor conflicts in Gainesville and to maximize exposure for U.S. Soccer. The game, which will be carried live on ESPN2, kicks off at 4 p.m. (ET). The match marks the fourth full international for the U.S. women in Tampa, where the team most recently defeated France in a hard-fought match, 2-1, back on April 27, 1997. U.S. scoring sensations Mia Hamm and Michelle Akers will both continue their march on the all-time international soccer scoring mark of 108 goals, currently held by Elisabetta Vignotto of Italy. Hamm currently has 103 goals, while Akers hit the 100-goal plateau in the USA’s 6-0 victory over Portugal in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 30. The USA holds a 4-0-0 all-time record against Finland, outscoring them 10-0 in three victories in 1995 with the most recent win coming 2-0 in March 1998. Ticket information will be announced later this week after being finalized.
