The U.S. women were shut out for the second straight game at the Four Nations Women’s Tournament in Panyu. They were held to a 0-0 tie by Germany Friday after having lost to Norway, 1-0, two days earlier. Norway’s 3-0 win over host China Friday eliminated the Americans from title contention. The U.S. will finish the tournament against China on Sunday at Tianhe Stadium. For the second straight game, the Americans couldn’t translate their superiority in possession (9-3 advabtage on shots) into goals. “We don’t sit back and wait for ties, we always go forward to win,” said U.S. coach April Heinrichs. “The Germans played with grit. They played hard and they played smart, and I commend their defense. But the fact is that they played almost the entire game in their own half and were under pressure the whole time.” USA-GERMANY SUMMARY: Jan. 25 in Panyu USA 0 Germany 0.
