U.S. Soccer has announced that the U.S. women’s national team, coaches and staff will train and live at the Seminole County Sports Training Center at Sylvan Lake Park in Sanford, Fla. in preparation for the 1999 Women’s World Cup. Beginning in January of 1999, 26 women’s national team players will take residency at the training center until the start of USA ’99. During the residency, the U.S. team will play numerous practice matches against other national teams from around the world at the Seminole County facility. The U.S. team has trained in Seminole County in its buildup to the 1995 Women’s World Cup and the 1996 Olympics. “For us this is an ideal situation,” said U.S. head coach Tony DiCicco. “We’ve had great success training at Seminole County Sports Training Center in the past, and are confident it will provide the perfect environment for our preparation for the 1999 Women’s World Cup.” The U.S. women will take on Mexico at Foxboro Stadium on Sept. 12 in the opening game of U.S. Women’s Cup ’98.
