Chinese teenage star Qu Bo took advantage of terrible defending by Greg Vanney and Tony Meola to score in the 75th minute and reduce the U.S. lead to 2-1. Vanney missed on a harmless-looking through ball from Waeg Liang, and Meola lost his 50-50 duel with Qu, allowing the Chinese striker to walk the ball in unopposed.
