In its first international game since the 2002 World Cup, the USA defeated El Salvador, 2-0, in a friendly in Washington, D.C., on Sunday.
Ben Olsen and Sasha Victorine provided the goals either side of halftime — Olsen heading home a Chris Klein cross and Victorine slotting from close range after Mathis found him unmarked in front of the Salvadoran goal.
Four Americans made their U.S. debuts: Wade Barrett, Taylor Twellman, Nick Rimando and Kyle Martino. El Salvador came with a roster of players averaging less than 21 years of age.
