The USA plays its seventh game of 2002 on Saturday. It meets Honduras at Safeco Field in Seattle (4 pm ET, 1 pm PT live on ESPN). Coach Bruce Arena’s team enters the friendly game following five wins in its Gold Cup triumph (including a penalty-kick tiebreaker triumph over Canada) and a 1-0 loss in Italy. In their last encounter, Honduras beat the USA, 3-2, in a World Cup qualifier in Washington, D.C., but Honduras failed to qualify after losing to Trinidad & Tobago and Mexico. “I realize the team we play on Saturday will not have the same players we saw last time,” Arena says. “But they are a very good attacking team and have some dangerous individual players that can come at you quickly in the counterattack.” Midfielders Jose Luis Pineda, Danilo Turcios, Amado Guevara and forward Milton Nunez are the only starters from the Washington, D.C.,game on Honduras’ roster for the Seattle clash. The Catrachos, under its new coach, Uruguayan Ernesto Omar Luzardo, won the Carlsberg Cup in Hong Kong earlier this month. More than 30,000 tickets have been sold. Safco has a capacity of 47,000.
