The United States fell to Germany, 3-1, in the semifinals of the Under-19 Women's World Championship Wednesday in Bangkok.

The Americans were the defending champions but lost on two well-taken goals in the second half by Germany's Melanie Behringer and Patricia Hanebeck.

U.S. goalie Ashlyn Harris, a star on the 2002 world championship team, had no chance on the three German goals, beginning with the first goal by Annike Krahn from seven yards out in the 11th minute.

Krahn's own goal evened the score five minutes later. Her attempted clearance of a ball driven into the box by right winger Sheree Gray landed in the German goal.

The Americans will play in the third-place match on Saturday, Nov. 27, at Bangkok's Rachamangala Stadium against Brazil, which fell to China, 2-0, in the other semifinal.

Germany and China meet in the final on Sunday.
