Eric Wynalda scored in the 54th minute to give the USA a 1-0 lead over Guatemala.
Claudio Reyna sent a cross in from outside the left edge of the box to Wynalda, who had beaten the last Guatemalan defender to the center of the area. Wynalda’s touched the ball down with his right foot, and slammed it into the left corner of the goal with his left.
