Brian Maisonneuve scored in the 90th minute to give the U.S. a 2-0 victory over Tunisia in their group A match in Birmingham, Ala. Over 45, 000 fans were present at Legion Field.
The second U.S. goal occurred after a Claudio Reyna cross was cleared to Alexi Lalas. The New England Revolution defender chipped the ball across the goalmouth, and Maisonneuve headed it into the lower right corner.
The Tunisians were playing with only nine men, as Fend Chouchane was dismissed in the 67th minute, and teammate Ben Chrouda was sent off in the 86th.
