The U.S. women lead Denmark 2-0 at halftime of their Group E match in Orlando, Fla.

The U.S. dominated the first half, with midfielder Tisha Venturini garnering the best scoring chances. Venturini’s 36th minute strike from a throw-in by Brandi Chastain put the U.S. ahead, and Mia Hamm followed with a goal in the 40th minute. Hamm has been stretching the Danish defense consistently with her speed.

Denmark packed the back until Venturini’s goal, electing to send just two or three players forward. Gitte Krogh did beat Chastain to a 20 yard pass in the 34th minute, putting her one-on-one with U.S. keeper Briana Scurry. However, Krogh’s poor last touch created an easy save for Scurry.

After the U.S. had taken the lead, Denmark began to send as many as seven players forward.
