Linda Medalen scored in the 18th minute to give Norway a 1-0 lead over the U.S.
Defender Agnete Carlsen chipped a ball from 30 yards out to Medalen, who was free at the top of the box. She had a one-on-one with U.S. keeper Briana Scurry and beat her to the right (far) post from 12 yards.
U.S. defender Brandi Chastain, who had injured her right leg making a tackle against Norway’s Hege Riise, was off the field receiving medical attention when Medalen scored. Chastain has since returned to the game.
