Tisha Venturini scored on a diving header in the 15th minute to put the U.S. ahead of Sweden in their Group E match in Orlando.
Mia Hamm took a pass from Michelle Akers on the left side of the midfield, and lobbed a cross to Tiffeny Milbrett at the top of the box. Milbrett, despite having a Swedish defender right behind her, headed the ball backwards to the diving Venturini, whose header beat keeper Annelie Nilsson to the far post.
