Marcos Senna will shortly become a Manchester United player if the club can come up with the right price, the player’s club Villarreal said Tuesday. “If the offer is good for everyone, the club would allow Marcos to leave,” Villarreal’s general manager Jose Manuel Llaneza told Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has declared his interest in adding the Brazilian-born Spanish International to his midfield before. The 30-year-old would likely cost between $7.5 and 8 million. Senna is a pure holding midfielder who would provide good cover for the more attack-minded Paul Scholes and the more creative Michael Carrick, who recently arrived from Tottenham for $35 million. Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini said it would be “a great footballing loss” should Senna depart. “He is a player who has proved his class and I have always found it very strange that nobody came in for him sooner as he is a great player.” For the last three years, Senna has provided defensive cover for the great Argentina playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme, who has himself been a transfer target of United in the past. The departure of Senna in midfield would be softened somewhat by the arrivals of former Arsenal star Robert Pires, Argentine Leandro Somoza and Turkish international Nihat Kahveci.
