French striker Marinette Pichon scored a pair of goals — her 27th and 28th of the season — and the New Jersey Wildcats overcame final four host Ottawa Fury, 2-1, Saturday in the semifinals at Carleton University.

The top-seeded Wildcats (17-0-0) will meet the Vancouver Whitecaps (15-0-1), a 2-1 winner over the Chicago Cobras in the other semifinal, in Sunday's title game at Keith Harris Stadium in Ottawa. Fox Sports World will broadcast the match live at 5 p.m. EDT.

Pichon, who starred with the Philadelphia Charge and was the WUSA's MVP in 2002, converted a 35th-minute penalty kick and added a second goal in the 68th minute as the Wildcats dominated the undermanned Fury (13-2-0).

Canadian World Cup starter Diana Matheson, who will be a freshman at Princeton this fall, was red-carded a little more than a half-hour into the game for a handball on the goalline. Pichon's subsequent spot kick gave New Jersey the advantage.

University of Illinois All-American Leisha Alcia, a Canadian national-teamer and the W-League's Goalkeeper of the Year, made several outstanding saves to keep Ottawa in the match.

In the first half, Alcia tipped Princeton senior Janine Willis' header over the crossbar, then dived to stop a close-range shot by University of Maryland junior Kimmy Francis. Four minutes into the second half, Alcia came off her line to half Pichon 1-on-1.

Pichon got her second goal, and seventh in three playoff games, from a through ball from Arizona State junior Manya Makoski, who played for the U.S. under-19 team that won the World Championship in 2002 and for the U.S. U-21 squad that captured the Nordic Cup last month. Pichon took the feed, turned her defender, and beat Alcia from 15 yards to the far post.

The Fury halved the deficit in the 82nd minute, after University of Maine senior Allison Kelly closed a long run with a cross that Willis handled and a penalty kick was awarded. Former Virginia Commonwealth University midfielder Leah Robinson converted the kick.

In the first semifinal, Canadian national team veterans Andrea Neil and Amber Allen tallied as the Whitecaps reached the W-League final for the second time. Vancouver lost to the Boston Renegades in the 2001 final.

Vancouver, with a lineup stocked with Canadian national-teamers, had the better of play but was unable to beat Chicago goalkeeper Molly Schneider, a UW Milwaukee junior, until the 53rd minute. Former Colorado College star Martina Franko just missed on a cross in the 12th minute, and Schneider had no trouble with an Allen shot in the 16th. She saved a volley by Canadian national team start Brittany Timko, a University of Nebraska sophomore, a minute later.

Neil put the Whitecaps ahead eight minutes into the second half, slotting a rebound after the ball fell to her following a Chicago defender's attempted clearance of Canadian national-teamer Randee Hermus' cross.

Allen made it 2-0 five minutes later from a superb pass by Amy Apps, who was born in California but raised and educated in Canada.

Chicago got its goal in the 68th minute, when former New York Power standout Emily Janss volleyed past goalkeeper Erin McLeod, a Canadian national-teamer who will be a junior at Penn State this fall after transferring from SMU.

The Whitecaps put heavy pressure on Chicago after Janss' goal, with Franko firing just wide and Schneider making fine stops on Franko and Neil.

McLeod nailed down the victory with stunning saves on University of Connecticut All-American Kristen Graczyk in the 73rd minute and Janss in the 77th.

Vancouver is unbeaten in 28 matches — it was eliminated in last year's Western Conference final on penalties — and has won 13 in a row.
