American goalkeeper Jonny Walker shone for his Chilean club, Universidad Catolica, in the Copa Libertadores tournament by making several superb stops in a 1-1 road draw against Olimpia of Paraguay.
With one game remaining in the first round of the competition, Catolica needs a win April 10 when it hosts Colombian club Once Caldas to advance. Once Caldas is currently in first place with nine points while Olimpia, with eight points, hosts last-place Flamengo on the same day. Catolica has seven points.
Walker pushed a fourth-minute header over the crossbar and thwarted a near-post bid from Miguel Angel BenÆtez at close range in the 61st minute.
The teams each had a player dismissed within eight minutes of each other in the first half, then scored their goals 10 minutes apart in the second half.
Announcers for Fox Sports named Walker the Man of the Match.
Catolica’s next contest is Saturday’s league match at home against Huachipato.
