It’s hard to guess how the decision-making process on new players works at AC Milan these days. According to The Times, Liverpool forward Jermaine Pennant “has been given the chance to revive his career” at the Italian giant and has been offered a pre-contract agreement by the club ahead of his contract expiring at Liverpool this summer.
It’s just a couple of weeks since Pennant, who has barely played for Liverpool’s first team this season, was courted by Real Madrid. That move was reportedly scuppered by Pennant’s salary demands (he currently earns $87,600 a week), but now Milan has come in to offer the 25-year-old an improbable second chance to sign for a European soccer power.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has been trying to offload Pennant since last summer. The winger has not played for Liverpool since October 29, when he started in the 1-0 win at home to Portsmouth, “with Benitez having lost patience with the player’s lifestyle and timekeeping,” the paper says. Wigan Athletic and Hull City have also shown interest, but the player says he favors a move abroad.
