England coach Fabio Capello on Monday named a 31-man provisional roster for the upcoming matches against the USA and Trinidad & Tobago, opting once again to go for the experience of Los Angeles Galaxy star David Beckham. The game might still be more than two weeks away, but Capello’s decisive move has soccer blogger Ives Galarcep wondering who U.S. coach Bob Bradley will choose to take with him to Wembley.
Bradley, of course, has many things to consider leading up to the May 28 clash, particularly the MLS schedule that weekend. Houston, FC Dallas, D.C. United and New England all have games the same day or the day after, which would rule out the likes of Brian Ching, Kenny Cooper, Taylor Twellman and Michael Parkhurst if Bradley decided not to choose MLS players.
Then there’s the question of the Red Bulls’ Jozy Altidore, who has the Olympics coming up. In the end, Bradley will probably take Altidore because he’ll be a key figure in World Cup qualifying and these are, after all, World Cup qualifying tune-ups. New York Coach Juan Carlos Osorio probably won’t be too happy, however. Galarcep also sees DaMarcus Beasley, who’s back dressing for Rangers games, available for the match. Don’t forget that after England, the U.S. is away to Spain June 4 and home to Argentina June 8.
