Winners:

In MLS, CHIVAS USA notched the first win in its short history, downing fellow expansion club Real Salt Lake, 1-0, on a Hector Caudros penalty kick. FREDDY ADU gave the best performance of his MLS career, making two nice assists and scoring United's third goal of a 3-1 win over Columbus. NEW ENGLAND extended its winning streak to five games and red hot CLINT DEMPSEY scored his fifth goal in a 2-0 win over Chicago.

In England, Fulham's BRIAN McBRIDE notched his fourth Premier League goal of the season — they've all come in his last eight games – by beating compatriot Brad Friedel on the second goal of a 3-1 win over Blackburn. CLAUDIO REYNA, going the full 90 for the ninth straight time since returning from injury in March, helped MANCHESTER CITY down Aston Villa, 2-1. The win means Man City, undefeated in its last seven games, can earn a UEFA Cup spot if it beats Middlesbrough on Sunday.

In France, LYON clinched its fourth straight Ligue 1 title. Only two other teams have reeled off a quartet in succession: St. Etienne (1967-1970) and Marseille (1989-1992).

Losers:

The COLORADO RAPIDS, which share the league's worst record (1-4-1) with Chivas USA, fell to the Los Angeles Galaxy, 3-2, in a game that saw three penalty kicks called in five minutes beginning in the 86th minute. With their 1-0 loss to San Jose, the METROSTARS remain winless in their first four home games.

American goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann conceded three goals as READING lost, 3-1, to Wigan, which earned promotion to the English Premier League while ruining Reading's chances of reaching the promotion playoffs. Hahnemann played in all of Reading's 46 league games. Countryman Bobby Convey, who last saw league action in December, made 18 (14 off the bench) league appearances. (Preston North End, whose American Eddie Lewis is sidelined after undergoing an appendectomy, finished fifth and will be playing off for a Premier League spot.)

A 1-0 loss to Juventus, with which had been even on points at the top at the Serie A, means AC MILAN is unlikely to repeat as Italian champion. David Trezeguet's headed goal was all Juve, which won titles in 2002 and 2003, needed.
