Winners:

German Second Division club ALEMANNIA AACHEN qualified for the knockout stage of the UEFA Cup thanks to a 2-0 win over AEK Athens. Aachen qualifed for the competition by finishing runner-up in last season's German Cup to Werder Bremen, the league champion that went into the Champions League, opening up the UEFA Cup spot for Aachen.

PARMA downed Turkey's Besiktas, 3-2, to advance to the UEFA Cup knockout stage, keeping an Italian presence in the competition after Lazio went out.

Losers:

By the time 22-year-old American defender OGUCHI ONYEWU scored in the 15th minute, his Belgian club STANDARD LIEGE was already down by two goals. It went on to lose, 7-1, to Spain's Athletic Bilbao and finishes last in its five-team group, from which the top three advanced to the UEFA Cup knockout round. Oneywu scored on a glancing header off Sergio Conceicao's free kick.

GLASGOW RANGERS was eliminated from the UEFA Cup with a 2-0 loss to France's Auxerre in a performance that former Rangers star Ally McCoist called ''powder puff.'' With HEARTS out after a loss to Hungary's Ferencvaros and Celtic a last-place group finisher in the Champions League, no SCOTTISH CLUBS remain in European competition this season.
