Winners:

American midfielder BOBBY CONVEY scored his first goals since joining English second-tier club Reading a year ago. The 23-year-old struck twice in a 5-0 win over Millwall while compatriot Marcus Hahnemann notched the shutout in Reading's third straight win. Convey's first goal came after 70-yard run with the ball and his second on a free kick. American EDDIE LEWIS scored his first goal for Leeds since joining the second-tier English club in the offseason as Leeds downed Wolves, 2-0.

In the English Premier League, BRIAN MCBRIDE scored for Fulham against fellow American Brad Friedel of Blackburn, which won, 2-1. (Fulham's American defender Carlos Bocanegra is out with a knee injury.) Manchester City, with Claudio Reyna pulling the strings in midfield, won, 2-1, at Birmingham.

They have arrived too late to give Chivas USA a realistic chance of reaching the playoffs, but the expansion club played at another level in their first game with JUAN FRANCISCO PALENCIA and JUAN PABLO GARCIA. Palencia scored twice, with a clever flick and long-range blast, while Garcia beat keeper Tony Meola with a tricky chip on Sunday against the MetroStars, who struggled to a 3-3 tie thanks to two controversial penalty kicks and a beautiful last-gasp goal from Amado Guevara, who also buried both PKs.

In the German Cup, Borussia Moenchengladbach, with American KASEY KELLER, advanced to the second round with a 3-0 win over Kutzhof of the Fifth Division. American Joe Enochs converted his penalty kick as Third Division VfL Osnabruck downed Second Division Greuther Furth in the shootout after a 2-2 tie.

Losers:

Defending champion D.C. UNITED's win streak ended at four when it fell, 3-2, to Los Angeles, which celebrated its first MLS win outside of Southern California since June 2004. Landon Donovan struck twice for the Galaxy.

FC DALLAS, so strong out of the gate this season, extended its winless streak to seven games when it fell, 1-0, to struggling Columbus on a goal by Cornell Glen, who had joined the Crew from Dallas, which traded him before he saw action for Dallas.

New England goalkeeper MATT REIS went unpunished in June for his brutal hit on D.C. United's Alecko Eskandarian, who suffered a concussion and remains sidelined. But Reis, who has made a habit of hammering forwards, got ejected in Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Colorado for downing Fabrice Noel.

ARSENAL, one of the few clubs considered capable of dethroning Chelsea, fell 1-0 in the London derby on a fluke goal by Didier Drogba. Chelsea is undefeated in 31 straight Premier League games.
